Swimming suspended in the blue midst of the ocean in front of Mombasa, Kenya, it's like doing an African safari of a very special kind: no roaring lions or stampeding wildebeests, in their place there are whale sharks, giant sea turtles and the white blue spotted rays swimming in the shade of the coral outcrops.
The oceanic coast of this country is a typical tidal environment and tides have to be reckoned with, but having to wait for the ocean's own rhythm offers ample recompense in the shape of outstanding underwater views. The hard coral reefs are home to schools of multicolor fishes and innumerable kinds of crustaceans.
Looking closely it is easy to spot a gaudy nudibranch grazing over a giant mushroom coral umbrella jutting out of the bottom. Moving out from the reef we are greeted by the large pelagics, manta rays, sharks and pods of dolphins. The area of the Watamu National Marine Park is closed to fishing, here marine life is even more abundant and certainly worth several dives in famed dive spots such as the Mida Wreck or Barracuda Reef.
To dive in this ever changing environment you need a reliable top-of-the-line scuba diving equipment that will follow you in all kind of dives. SCUBAPRO and UWATEC product lines have everything you need, from comfortable wetsuits to high-tech dive computers, easy-to-use buoyancy compensators and high-flow regulators, and all the accessories that can complement your diving experience.
